Changes to Login Procedures

If you were registered to multiple Zacks products in the past, then you may have wondered why you were required to use different user names and passwords to access these various services. Wonder no more. Beginning February 28, 2005, you will only need one user name and password to access the wealth of information, research, and portfolios available on our free service, Zacks.com, or premium services like Zacks Elite and Expert Advice newsletter service.

Who Is Affected?
Most people are not affected. If you only had access to ZacksElite.com with one user name and password, relax. Nothing changes. You will continue to use the same login as before.

For those who have multiple user names and passwords, then look below to find the scenario that describes your situation and resulting login procedure.

  • ZacksElite.com Subscriber & Zacks.com Registrant: You will use your Zacks Elite user name and password going forward for both websites.
  • ZacksElite.com Subscriber & Expert Advice Newsletter Registrant: You will use your Expert Advice user name and password going forward for both websites.
  • ZacksElite.com Subscriber, Zacks.com Registrant, & Expert Advice Newsletter Registrant: You will use your Expert Advice user name and password going forward for all three websites.

What is the difference between Zacks Elite and Zacks.com?
Zacks Elite is the only in-house newsletter for individual investors published by Zacks Investment Research. It is an all-inclusive site including portfolios for stock recommendations, research reports, a screening tool, and personal portfolio updates. Zacks.com is a free resource center with limited research. Their main line of business is re-selling third party investment newsletters that are not directly affiliated with our firm.

Is my account representative available for questions after I start my subscription?
Yes, your account representative will activate your subscription and continue to be available for questions concerning site content and navigation. For technical issues, we provide ZE Support to trouble-shoot any problems with logging in and opening files… simply email zesupport@zacks.com

What is the best way to trade my stocks while using Zacks Elite?
Most Zacks Elite users trade stocks through an online trading account. We recommend Brown & Co.

Where can I find the Zacks Ranks of the stocks I currently own?
On the top-right side of the page is a box labeled "Enter Symbol." Simply type in the ticker of any stock and a quote and chart page will appear. The updated Zacks Rank is in the lower-right corner of this page. Links to other research will appear down the left side of the page.

Who uses Zacks Elite?
Private investors, financial analysts, and money managers across the globe use Zacks Elite to manage billions of dollars. There is not a minimum or optimal portfolio size to become a member. The important thing is that you grow your portfolio, and the Zacks Elite will help you do that by recommending stocks with bullish earnings data and solid fundamentals.

Will I be alerted if my stocks drop in rank?
For each portfolio created on ZacksElite.com, a daily email will be sent out listing both the current Zacks Rank for each stock and whether a change in Zacks Rank has occurred. In addition, the email details EPS estimate revisions and brokerage rating revisions.

When should I sell my stocks?
Deciding when to sell a stock depends on your timeline. The ranking system is in place to make this easy for you. When your stock drops to a #4 (SELL), we recommend you sell it. If you are a short-term investor holding a #1 (STRONG BUY) ranked stock, you may find it more beneficial to sell when the rank reaches #3 (HOLD).

Can I change my password?
Yes. You may also change your username, provided that the new username you choose has not already been taken by another user. To change either your username or password, visit our Update Account page.

How do I choose stocks from the "Timely Buys" and "Focus List"?
We recommend that you buy the most recent additions to either list. Click on the upward-pointing red arrow in the "Date Added" column to see the most recent additions at the top of the list.

How will I know if changes were made to the "Focus List" and the "Timely Buys List"?
The daily email update lists both additions and deletions to both the Focus List and the Timely Buys List. Each morning, you will receive notification of any changes made during the previous day and over the previous seven days. In addition, details of all additions and deletions are provided on ZacksElite.com under the "Focus List" and "Timely Buys" tabs.

Where do I find the price target of a stock that I own?
You can find a 12-month target price in a company's "Zacks Equity Research" report. This is found in 2 areas of the site. Either click on the tab labeled ZER on the top of the page, or scroll to the bottom left-hand side of the home page and enter ZER there. Once there, you can enter the company's ticker in the ticker box.

Does Zacks cover options and mutual funds?
No, we only provide equity research because our recommendations are based on earnings estimate revisions coming from covering analysts. Investors involved with options and mutual funds use the Zacks Rank to assess the potential for their holdings. With options, its simple. The Zacks Rank provides a reliable forecast as to how the stock AND the option will trade. For mutual funds, it's a bit more complex. We suggest that you contact your fund's website and get a list of all the equities that are held within it. Once you have done that, you are able to get the Zacks Ranks on these stocks.

What is an Earnings Surprise?
The Earnings Per Share (EPS) surprise for the last reported quarter is the difference between the actual EPS reported for the quarter and the consensus estimate for the quarter. This number can be used to find stocks that have recently reported earnings higher or lower than expectations.

What is an Earnings Estimate Revision?
This is the backbone of the Zacks Rank. An EPS revision is issued when one of the analysts covering a company either upgrades or downgrades his or her earnings expectations.

Are the Additions/Deletions the equivalent of buy/sell signals?
Yes, if we "Add" a stock to our Focus List we are buying. Conversely if we "Delete" a stock we are selling our position. Use the Zacks Rank for specific buy/sell/hold recommendations.

"My Portfolio" Questions

I thought I could input 50 tickers in the portfolio, why is there is only room for five?
You can enter up to 50 stocks into one portfolio, but they must be entered five stocks at a time

How many portfolios can I have?
You can create as many portfolios as you would like. Remember that you will receive a daily e-mail update for each portfolio you create.

In the Daily Alert, what does "Rank Change" mean?
In this column you will find if the Zacks Rank has changed for the stocks that you follow. A (+) symbol will show up when the Zacks Rank improves for your stocks and is considered a bullish indicator For example, Zacks Rank changes from 3 (Hold) to 2 (Buy). On the flip side a (-) symbol is a bearish indicator that results from a lowering of the Zacks Rank .For example, Zacks Rank changes from 3 (Hold) to 4 (Sell). It is important to look for these changes every day as it is one of the earliest indications of what you should do with your stocks.
